The City of San Diego is marching forward with the Riverwalk redevelopment project in Mission Valley. Officials broke ground at the site that will turn Riverwalk Golf Club into a nearly 200-acre transit-friendly community along the San Diego River.
The first phase will include 930 apartments, 75,000 sqft of retail space, a 2-acre park, and improvements to Friars Road + sidewalks. This stage is slated to open in early 2025, but the entirety of the project is expected to be built out over the next 15 years. When the final project is completed, it will:
- Increase the total number of homes to 4,300 — with 10% affordable housing.
- Create 97 acres of open space, including River Park.
- Double the retail space to 150,000 sqft.
- Include 1 million sqft of office space.
The city also hopes to add a new transit station including trolley + bus access, truly making this a connected community.
