By now you know we’re sweet on San Diego. Since it’s Feb. 14 — and there’s still time to get a last minute gift for your Valentine or yourself — we’re sharing 10 local chocolatiers where you can buy sweets to your heart’s content.

Chocolate Haus | 947 Turquoise St., Pacific Beach
Since its 2004 debut, this chocolatier has been making sweets using fresh, high-quality ingredients. You can build your own box of chocolates by selecting from a long list of varieties and confections, or you can pick up perfectly crafted, pre-made treats.

Ghirardelli Ice Cream + Chocolate Shop | 643 Fifth Ave., Downtown San Diego
You can literally smell the sweets wafting in the air when you walk past this shop in the Gaslamp Quarter. You’ll find a variety of those classic Ghirardelli chocolate squares, bars, baking mixes and chocolate chips — and you can treat yourself to a sundae, shake, or hot cocoa.

Nibble Chocolate | Pacific Beach, Old Town + Little Italy
This locally founded company has been making handcrafted, small batch chocolates since 2013. Owners David and Sandra aim to preserve the health benefits found in cocoa — and its deliciousness — without any of the unnecessary additives.

Pro tip: You can also find these chocolates at the Little Italy Mercato on Saturdays, and the Hillcrest Farmers Market on Sundays.

Teuscher, 7863 Girard Ave., #204, La Jolla
This Swiss chocolate shop offers a huge selection of sweets ranging from truffles and pralines to hand-dipped fruits. Even better, there are special extended Valentine’s Day hours for last-minute shoppers.

Tails are wagging in Allied Gardens. The Allied Gardens Off-Leash Dog Park is now open, a heavily anticipated addition to the community years in the making.

The ~28,000-sqft park is larger than 68% of dog parks in the City of San Diego and includes amenities like:
  • Separate areas for small and large dogs
  • Logs that have been repurposed for agility training and seating
  • A dog-friendly water fountain
  • Dog bag receptacles and waste bins
The park is located directly next to the Allied Gardens Pool at 6707 Glenroy St. It is the first off-leash dog park in the Navajo community and the first city-operated dog park in District 7. The city has allocated $389,000 to building and maintaining the park in this year’s fiscal budget.

From the editor
Good morning, San Diego. I am so happy to have a stretch of sunny weather after all the rain we’ve been receiving recently. I know it’s still cool out — by San Diego’s standards — but I want to embrace the sunshine by getting ice cream this weekend. It’s not a question of if I will do this, but rather, where I will do it.
