San Diegans, grab your black and red gear — football season is back. The SDSU Aztecs have played a couple of games already, so now’s the time to dive into all things local football before you fall behind.
What everyone’s talking about:
SDSU took on UCLA this past Saturday, losing by a score of 35-10.

Ricardo Campos will transition from his role as president of the San Diego Loyal to executive vice president of club operations for San Diego MLS on Monday, Sept. 18. This comes four months after Major League Soccer announced it would expand to San Diego in 2025.
Outdoors
The California Coastal Commission approved the year-round closure of an area at Point La Jolla to keep people + sea lions safe. Before the proposal is finalized, San Diego City Council will weigh in during its meeting on Monday, Sept. 18. Currently, the area is only closed during sea lion pupping season. (NBC 7)
Closing
Lolita’s is closing it’s downtown location near Petco Park on Sunday, Sept. 24. The Mexican restaurant has operated this location since 2009. There are five other Lolita’s locations in San Diego County. (ABC 10)
Civic
The county has sent approximately 430,000 postcards to residents in District 4, Fallbrook Public Utility District, and Rainbow Municipal Water District for the special election on Tuesday, Nov. 7. In District 4, there’s a runoff election to fill a vacant seat, while the other two districts will vote on a ballot measure.
Opening
Nova Easy Kombucha is celebrating the opening of its Ocean Beach Play Room — an add-on to its existing taproom — with a party this Thursday, Sept. 14, 5:30-10 p.m. The Play Room doubles the taproom’s space + features foosball, billiards, and air hockey.
Feel Good
The world’s second successfully cloned Przewalski’s horse is settling into his new home at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The foal named Ollie is currently living in a secluded habitat with his surrogate mother until he’s ready to be introduced to the zoo’s other Przewalski’s horses.
Eat
After opening a few weeks ago, Long Story Short restaurant in North Park is hosting a grand opening celebration on Saturday, Sept. 16, beginning at 5 p.m. Make a reservation + don’t miss the chance to try the Sea Urchin French Toast, Hand Rolled Pici, and Local Bluefin Tuna Steak.
Plan Ahead
Yeehaw. Mark your calendars for the inaugural San Diego Rodeo at Petco Park from Friday, Jan. 12 to Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024. The Padres have partnered with C5 Rodeo Company Inc. and Outriders Present to produce the three-day event; tickets go on sale Monday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. (ABC 10)
