🎨 Greetings from US Naval Training Station | 2825 Dewey Rd., Liberty Station | By Greetings Tour
Victor Ving and photographer Lisa Beggs — the duo behind Greetings Tour — developed this piece to celebrate Liberty Station’s history as a naval training station while greeting visitors to the tourist destination. It really feels like you’re living in a postcard — just go to the other side and see the updated back of this mural.

Is there any better way to celebrate being in San Diego than with a big smile? Perhaps there is one way — by smiling in front of this giant, colorful mural in downtown San Diego.
Paul Jimenez and Signe Ditona are the artists behind Ground Floor Murals. The San Diego Padres commissioned the duo to create several pieces honoring their players, including this portrait of Joe Musgrove at Grossmont High School, his alma mater. The mural was added in 2021 after the local legend pitched the Padres’ first no-hitter.

Head to Pacific Beach to find this tribute to the legendary Beatles singer, guitarist, and activist. The peaceful image features the icon with a daisy over his eye and can be spotted on the wall outside of the former Five Guys location.

San Diego Port commissioners voted to process a request to transform Coronado Cays into an RV park. The 7-acre space would be able to accommodate 41 cottage-like trailers, which could serve as more affordable vacation rentals. If the $10 million project moves forward, the next step will be an environmental analysis. 🚐 (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Four affordable housing developments received $24.5 million in funding fromCalifornia’s Multifamily Finance Super Notice of Funding Availability program in addition to $29 million from San Diego County. The complexes in National City, San Ysidro, City Heights, and Rancho Bernardo will create 359 affordable units. 🏗

$1.8 million. That’s the value of a winning Powerball ticket sold at a Shell station in Chula Vista. The lucky player matched all five winning numbers during last Saturday’s drawing — but not the Powerball — and has 180 days to claim the prize. 💰(Fox 5)

The San Diego Botanic Garden’sWorld of Orchids is coming back in season Saturday, March 11-Sunday, April 9. The event will feature flower displays — including different orchid species and hybrids — and the garden will offer classes and vendors inside the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory. 💐
Legacy
Rose Schindler — a Holocaust survivor and public speaker — has died at age 93. Rose moved to San Diego in 1956 where she lived with her husband and raised four children. Three weeks prior to her death, Rose shared her story of survival at UC San Diego’s Hillel Center. 🕯 (San Diego Union-Tribune)

A bachelorette party in San Diego has a nice ring to it. Lawn Love ranked the city No. 15 on its “2023’s Best Bachelorette Party Destinations,” giving it praise for its fun activities and food and drink options. The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill opens in Kearny Mesa

A Greek/Armenian family founded the brand in Nevada in 2011, and began expanding in 2017. Recently, San Diego native Manish Sharma decided to open a location in the city to bring authentic Mediterranean flavors to locals.
What’s on the menu at this fast-casual eatery? It featuresdishes like gyros, chicken or steak souvlaki, and falafels. After the entree, you can try a desert including baklava, rice pudding, or baklava ice cream.

Editor’s pick: With all this talk of murals, I can’t understate how big some of them are. I visited the “Smile, You’re in San Diego” mural, and I was dwarfed by the huge display. Though I have to admit, it definitely would have made me smile if there wasn’t so much sun in my eyes. ☀️
