💥 POW! It’s Comic-Con time

It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC). The famous event goes down Thursday, July 24-Sunday, July 27 at the San Diego Convention Center and the fun will also spill into the Gaslamp Quarter. Here’s a glimpse at the action.

Inside, for badgeholders

Whew — it’s busy in there. We recommend browsing through 550+ exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall spanning comics, special merch, video games, TV, and film — this is our favorite part of SDCC. This year, we spy big brands like LEGO, Funko, DC Comics, and “Star Wars” on the map, but don’t miss the gems in the Artists’ Alley + Small Press area.

Outside, without a badge

Whew — it’s busy out there. If you didn’t score a badge this year, you can still get into the SDCC spirit at nearby attractions.

This includes Hulu’s offsite, which will bring Arlen, Texas to SD with a “King of the Hill” activation at the Bayfront Parking Lot (600 Convention Way) next to the convention center — complete with the water tower.

What a fin-tastic view. It’s that time of the year when leopard sharks flock to the warm, calm, shallow waters of La Jolla Shores; peak season is August + September.

Areas near Kellogg Park and La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club are hot spots for pregnant female leopard sharks incubating their embryos. The docile creatures feed on small fish and crabs and are harmless to humans, attracting swimmers, snorkelers, and kayakers to float next to them + enjoy the largest annual aggregation of leopard sharks in the world.

Pro tip: Book a leopard shark snorkeling tour with Everyday California or Bike & Kayak Tours.

The Wrap

Excited for Comic-Con this weekend? Me too. I’m grateful to have many fun memories from covering the event over the years, but a few hold a special place in my heart.

I’ll never forget seeing “Dawson’s Creek” actor Joshua Jackson walking outside the convention center dressed as Pacey Witter in 2010, telling people they were unwittingly at “Pacey Con.” Or that time in 2014 when “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe disguised himself in full Spider-Man cosplay so he could stroll the event undetected. Oh, and last year’s A.V.A. Fest from “Abbott Elementary,” which was everything a fan could dream of. See you there.
