    🍂 Fallin’ for you, SD

    SD Fall Hiking
We love a fall hike in SD. | Photo via Monica Garske + SDtoday
We know the question on your mind, San Diegans — when is it truly going to cool down?

Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for September, October, and November.

    Temperature
This fall, San Diego will experience typical temps. In broader San Diego County, some areas will see temps leaning 33-40% above normal.

    Precipitation
Think fewer showers. After a rainy start to 2024, SD is expected to get 33-40% below normal rainfall this autumn.

    Drought
NOAA is forecasting drought conditions will be kept at bay this fall. January-May 2024 made for the 27th wettest year to date in San Diego County over the past 130 years. July 2024 was the driest July on record.

    Dancin’ in September
San Diegans know temperatures are still warm, averaging a high of 76.6°. Ocean temps are nice, too, averaging 66.7° — the second warmest month for the sea in SD as the tourists leave and “locals summer” begins.

    Oh hay, October
San Diego averages a high temperature of 73.2° in October, and rain falls for ~3.4 days.

    Nice November
Flannel and flip-flops, anyone? The average daytime high is a pleasant 68.5° and a cool 57.4° at night — perfect hiking weather.
