Best locations to watch a winter San Diego sunset

January is getting brighter by the day. According to the NOAA Solar Calculator, the city will gain 34 minutes of daylight over the course of the month.

This study looked at the sunrise and sunset on New Year’s Day: It rose at 6:51 a.m. and set at 4:54 p.m. Following Jan. 1, the sun rises a little earlier and sets a little later each day. On Jan. 31, the sunrise will be at 6:45 a.m. and the sunset will be at 5:20 p.m.

San Diegans know, those winter sunsets just hit different. If you want to plan a sunset outing, check out these spots:
  • Oceanside Pier
  • Sunset Cliffs
  • Coronado Ferry Landing Pier
  • Crystal Pier
Can’t see the sunset because you’re workin’ 9-5? Good news, today is the last day it sets before 5 p.m., and tomorrow the sunset is expected at exactly 5 p.m.

Good morning, San Diego. I’m going to age myself a bit, but I remember watching “The Real World: San Diego” on MTV when it premiered. Well, the first episode debuted on Jan. 6, 2004 — just over 20 years ago. If you have fond memories of this cast, you might want to check out “The Challenge” on MTV because Brad Fiorenza will be making an appearance on the newest season.
