Padres trade Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the Yankees

The San Diego Padres’ roster is getting a shake up. Outfielders Juan Soto and Trent Grisham have been traded to the New York Yankees — the MLB’s biggest offseason trade according to CBS Sports.

In return, the Padres will receive pitchers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, and Randy Vásquez — plus catcher Kyle Higashioka — from the Yankees. This move fills two objectives for the Friars: adding to their starting rotation and making their roster more affordable.

Reportedly, Soto will earn a $33 million salary with the Yankees while Grisham will earn $5 million. Despite the Padres’ underwhelming 2023 season, Soto is regarded as one of MLB’s best pure hitters.

But don’t worry, SD — the Padres still have lots of big names in their lineup including Manny Machado, Fernando Tatís Jr., Yu Darvish, Xander Bogaerts, Ha-Seong Kim, Jake Cronenworth, and Joe Musgrove.

Happy Friday, San Diego. Each year I look for holiday movies set in San Diego, and each year, my search comes up empty-handed. I think Julian would make the perfect location for a Hallmark movie, but I guess the filming crews haven’t made it there yet. If you know of a locally-filmed holiday movie, let us know.
