Finding a good comedy show is no laughing matter in San Diego, so in the spirit of April Fools’ Day, we’d rather laugh along with you at some of our local venues. This is no prank — these places are real, because we’ll save the joking for the pros.
Laugh Factory | 430 F St., Gaslamp Quarter
This appropriately named venue features shows with comedy troupes and recognizable stand-up acts. This month we’re looking forward to King Bach + the “Brown-ish” night of Latin comedians.
The American Comedy Co. | 818 B 6th Ave., Gaslamp Quarter
New favorites and seasoned comedians bring laughs to this downtown club + restaurant. We’re already LOLing at the thought of Asif Ali + Kelsey Cook this month.
Mad House Comedy Club | 801 Fourth Ave., Gaslamp Quarter
Joining our list of downtown venues, this spot is home to old-school jokers + amateur comedians. In April we’re excited for Ed Hill — or we might give open mic night a shot.
Grand Comedy Club | 340 E. Grand Ave., Escondido
Looking for weekend fun? This North County club brings you food, drinks, and punchlines on Fridays + Saturdays. This month hosts acts like Amir K + Forrest Shaw.

The Comedy Store | 916 Pearl St., La Jolla
You may have seen the famous wall while walking by, but this “store” is a great place to see some of your favorite names in comedy — this month Whitney Cummings + Jamie Kennedy are on the calendar.
Comedy Heights | 4590 Park Blvd., City Heights
This local favorite welcomes Southern California’s up-and-coming jokesters + some familiar faces. April brings us a chance to laugh with Mark Christopher Lawrence of the TV series “Chuck” fame.
Goodbar | 1872 Rosecrans St., Point Loma
You’re in for a hump day treat. This local club has weekly Wednesday comedy shows where rising stars have their chance to shine.
National Comedy Theater | 3717 India St., Middletown
You never know what’s going to happen with our city’s local improv troupe, offering regular Fridays and Saturdays shows + special events each month. Want to get in on the fun? They offer improv classes.
Finest City Improv | 3746 6th Ave., Hillcrest
Local performers will make you laugh at this downtown venue, offering improv, stand-up, and fun events. It’s also a place to take classes before you’re ready to take the stage.
