Kids, this is the story of how I met your mother, and it was all thanks to SDtoday.
OK, so maybe that’s not exactly how the 2000s sitcom went, but if Ted Mosby had consulted us for date night ideas, we could’ve shaved the show down to two seasons (and saved his kids a lot of time). Regardless, whether you’ve met “the one” or are hoping to impress someone new, we’ve got 25 local date night ideas that are legen — wait for it — dary.
If the way to their heart is through their stomach
Enjoy a meal with a side of history at Wolfie’s Carousel Bar in Little Italy. And yes, the centerpiece carousel bar really moves, but slow enough that it won’t leave you spinning.
Head to Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream in North Park or Point Loma to get a flight of ice cream cones — maybe try a 32-cone flight if you’re really hungry.
The only thing that makes Sunset Cliffs better: going with the right person.
San Diego’s sunsets are priceless, but watching the sun go down at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park makes for a romantic date, and it’s completely free.

Beach day? Make it a beach date — we are in San Diego, after all.
A 1950s-style date is just a sock hop away at one of San Diego’s retro diners. If you’re near Liberty Station, Corvette Diner is always a rockin’ option.

Get ready to pop off, because Nat Diego 2023 — a natural wine festival — is returning for its fifth year, and tickets are still available.
Nat Diego organizers told SDtoday they anticipate ~45 winemakers will be at the event, including local makers. If you’re new to natural wine, the handmade process revolves around using sustainably-farmed materials free of chemicals and additives.
The festival starts with an Opening Night party on Friday, July 7, 7-10 p.m., at The Rose Wine Bar and Secret Sister in South Park.
On Saturday, July 8, 1-5 p.m., the Grand Tasting will be hosted at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan. Here, attendees can sample natural wines and learn about their creation processes. That evening there will be a free closing ceremony at Little Thief in North Park.
And, you can feel good about drinking this wine — the festival benefits local nonprofit MAKE Projects.
Happy Friday, San Diego. My secret’s out — I recently shared my favorite hidden gem coffee shop on our Instagram feed, Moe Coffee near Little Italy. Of course, the coffee is great, but last weekend, I tried the lemonade flavored with lavender. It was the perfect refresher on a sunny San Diego Sunday.
