Beach days, we’re ready for you, and nothing beats a walk down one of San Diego’s piers. If you’re looking for a pier-fect spot to see the waves, catch a sunset, or enjoy reely good fishing, we have five ideas for you — though one landmark might be closed this summer.
🚧 Updates in OB
The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier has been closed since February due to damage from winter storms. Mayor Todd Gloria has hopes of reopening the local landmark for the summer, but structural deterioration may not make this possible. These discussions have left locals wondering whether it’s better to repair or re-pier.
Based on its current analysis, the City of San Diego plans to eventually replace the pier. The completion date of the Ocean Beach Pier Renewal project has not been announced, but planning and permitting stages are expected to run through the end of 2024.
If you have comments, ideas, or feedback regarding the project, the second community workshop is this Saturday, June 10, 2-4 p.m. at the Liberty Station Conference Center.

The San Diego County Fair returns today, but before you “get out there,” you need to actually get there. This year, the Fair Tripper deal is back to help locals coast to the event.
Your ticket includes entry to the fair plus round-trip rides on the MTS Trolley and Bus and the NCTD COASTER, SPRINTER, and BREEZE. A free shuttle will take you between the Solana Beach COASTER Station and the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Ticket prices vary, but the maximum cost is $20.
If you’re on board, here are some things to keep in mind:
Fair Tripper tickets are valid for rides for one day and must be purchased the day you plan to use them.
Tickets must be purchased on the PRONTO app or at a ticket vending machine.
Each person must have their own ticket.
All services, including the shuttle, are ADA accessible.
Good morning, San Diego. Every time I visit the San Diego County Fair, I spend money playing the games, hoping to leave with a giant prize. I’ve never won, likely because I don’t have a lot of skill at these games. But, that’s not going to stop me from playing Ring-O-Bottle because this might be my lucky year.
