In a 7-1 vote, San Diego City Council approved Mayor Todd Gloria’s $175 million purchase of 101 Ash St. + Civic Center Plaza. The settlement will cost the city $11.6 million annually until 2053, thus former San Diego City Attorney Mike Aguirre says it could be expensive for taxpayers. 📜 (NBC 7)
Chula Vista relaunched its First-Time Homebuyer Program, designed to help residents at or below 80% of the San Diego County median household income. Time to vote. The City of San Diego asked you to name its new, electric street sweeper, and it’s down to three options: “Sweep-E,” “The Blue Broomba” + “T.E.S.S. (The Electric Street Sweeper).” Your vote will enter you into a raffle to win prizes like SeaWorld tickets. 🧹
Real Estate
The price of a 1 BD, 1 BA apartment in the City of San Diego dropped 4.6% from September to October, bringing the average rent to $2,500 — making it the sixth most expensive market in the nation. Researchers at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanographycaught the opportunity to study the North Pacific big-eye octopus — a rare species that’s notoriously difficult to keep alive in captivity. Bon appétit, North Park 🥂
North Park welcomes The Seventh House
Bienvenue à North Park, The Seventh House. The restaurant recently celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, welcoming locals to the upscale lounge.
Inside, you’ll find a French + Baja-inspired menu with décor to match. Be prepared to be dazzled by elegant champagne showers and mystified as you discover your destiny (and new favorite dish) by following tarot cards.
What’s on the menu? You’ll find small plates, apéritifs, plenty of French wines, and entrées. And, the restaurant lives by Marie Antoinette’s motto: “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” — or “let them eat cake,” to us Americans. That means your sweet tooth will love the breakfast, brunch + dessert options.
📍 2538 University Ave.
🗓️ Répondez s’il vous plaît — you can reserve a table online, which is recommended for larger groups.
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Michael.
Editor’s pick:Good morning, San Diego. If your childhood included “Sister, Sister” or the phrase “hug me brotha,” you should be excited for the LEGOLAND California Resort Tree Lighting Ceremony tomorrow at 5:55 p.m. Actors Tamera Mowry-Housley + Josh Peck will be the guests of honor, and if you can’t make it to the event, it will stream on Facebook Live.
DYK?: Josh Peck is kind of a San Diego local. He was born in New York, but his character Josh Nichols from “Drake & Josh” lived in San Diego.
