Yes, San Diego Beer Week is having its moment, but the city’s wine + culinary scene is also poppin’ off with the 18th annual San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival — a celebration of delicious events running today through Sunday, Nov. 13. 🍷

From the Grand Tasting along the Embarcadero to the Grand Fiesta at Liberty Station, here’s a taste of what to expect at the 6-day fest named the Best General Food Festival via USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice in 2019.

The Grand Tasting — set for Saturday, Nov. 12 — is one of the highlights of the annual festival.

The festival’s official kickoff bash features the country’s top sommeliers, wineries + winemakers. Find tickets.

🧀 The Grand Tasting
Saturday, Nov. 12 | 12-3 p.m. | Embarcadero Marina Park North
Billed as “the city’s biggest foodie party of the year,” this event features bites from top chefs, plus sips from international wine, beer + spirits purveyors. Expect live entertainment at this outdoor extravaganza — and a demo on using cooking as therapy.

🌮 The Grand Fiesta
Sunday, Nov. 13 | 12-3 p.m. | Ingram Plaza, Liberty Station
This newly-expanded shindig on the final day of the Wine & Food Festival showcases Mexico’s best wines, spirits + cuisineplus live music and cross-border art. Make your way through food stations curated by local chefs like Not Not Tacos from Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien and tasting booths from local brands including Nova Easy Kombucha, Pure Project, and Bivouac Ciderworks.

Pro tip: Don’t fret, the signature Taco TKO competition is still around, with chefs vying for their creation to be crowned San Diego’s Most Awesome Taco.

The fest includes special dining events at select local restaurants like JRDN at Tower23 in Pacific Beach and Ranch 45 in Solana Beach, and an expedition into Baja California’s food scene. Choose your own adventure.

  • The California Office of Traffic Safety awarded a $125,000 grant to San Diego County that’ll help fund activities focused on bicycle + pedestrian safety through Sept. 30, 2023. This includes an outreach campaign on social media, safety presentations at local community centers and schools, and walking field trips with older adults. 🚲
Traffic
  • SANDAG says southbound Pershing Drive — between Upas + 26th streets — is fully closed each weekday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Tuesday, Nov. 15, while crews work on the Pershing Bikeway. Detours will be in place for motorists as demo, grading, and concrete pours are completed. 🚧
  • If you’re driving on Interstate 8 between Alpine + Pine Valley, expect delays. Caltrans has launched a multi-phase pavement replacement project to improve 10 miles from Viejas Creek Road to west of the Pine Valley Creek Bridge. Right now, traffic is reduced to one lane for a 3-mile stretch of the construction zone. 🦺 (East County Magazine)

  • Shopping small this season? The Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center (CPMCC) launched a museum store featuring prints by local artists and books detailing the history of Barrio Logan. We spy T-shirts and accessories, too. The CPMCC is open Friday, 12-6 p.m., and weekends, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. 🖼️

2022 Statewide General Election Day in San Diego

The Statewide General Election is on Nov. 8, 2022.

Voting in person? There are 218 vote centers open today from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. across San Diego County. Find the closest location by using this interactive map.

Voting by mail? The Registrar of Voters has shared this list of ballot drop box locations. Map out the one nearest you.

What’s on the ballot? One of the biggest local races is for San Diego County Sheriff between candidates Kelly Martinez and John Hemmerling. There’s also the race for two seats on the San Diego Unified School Board.

You’ll also find several measures on your local ballot, including Measure A — which impacts taxes on cannabis businesses in unincorporated communities — and Measure C, which would eliminate the current 30-ft building height limit in an area of the Midway District.

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters will be tracking election results on its websit; this is when we can expect results.
