No tricks, just treats 🍭

3 locally-operated candy stores in San Diego

What’s Halloween without endless amounts of candy? Sweet treats have been a part of the holiday tradition since the 1950s, when they served as an alternative to a trick.

We’ve got a sweet tooth that’s ready for all the treats (and maybe a few tricks). So, whether you’re stocking up for your scary movie marathon or challenging your friends to see who can eat the most sugar, we’re checking out 3 locally-owned candy shops to help you stock up this season.

Celebrating our time 🤎

Joe Musgrove mural added to WestBrew wall in downtown San Diego

Joe Musgrove mural at WestBrew
Cheers to a new mural. | Photo via @groundfloormurals
Our excitement for the Padres has us wanting to paint the city brown + gold — but that’s not just a dream for Chula Vista-based muralists Paul Jimenez + Signe Ditona (aka Ground Floor Murals). As the Friars faced the LA Dodgers over the weekend, the artists painted pitcher Joe Musgrove on the walls of WestBrew in downtown San Diego.

The portrait of the El Cajon native can be seen outside the tasting room and boldly proclaims “It’s Our Time,” greeting fans as they walk to Petco Park. As the team continues into the National League Championship Series, the ballpark will host Game 1 tonight at 5:03 p.m. and Game 2 tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. It will also be the location for games 6 + 7, as needed.

The new piece was commissioned thanks to San Diego’s Downtown Partnership Clean & Safe program, which aims to uphold the appearance of the area’s 275 blocks.

THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Michael.

Editor’s pick: Good morning, San Diego. After this weekend, I can’t stop listening to “All the Small Things” by blink-182. It’s great to see the Poway-formed band reunite, but anyone who went to Petco Park for Game 4 of the National League Division Series knows the song has taken on a new meaning. As the rain came down + crews prepared the field, fans sang along before watching the Padres swing to victory.
