• Margaritaville Hotel , Gaslamp Quarter | July 2023 | We’ll be watchin’ the sun bake at this downtown hotel featuring 235 guest rooms, dining options (salt, salt, salt), a rooftop pool, and wedding venues. The brand is planning a second local resort in Mission Bay, scheduled to debut in 2024.
• Genetech , Oceanside | Ongoing | Based out of San Francisco, this company develops drugs for rare diseases and recently began a $450 million expansion of its Oceanside campus that’s expected to be completed in 2025.

Community

• Gaslamp Promenade , Gaslamp Quarter | Late spring 2023 | Walking through the Gaslamp Quarter will have a new feel thanks to this project that will transform Fifth Avenue into eight distinct plazas from Broadway to K Street. While this is an ongoing project, new traffic regulations are expected to begin in June.
• Olive Street Park , Bankers Hill | Late 2023 | The city expects the bulk of the construction on this 0.6-acre park to be done by the end of this year, and it will serve as a tribute to the 8,000+ San Diegans who have died from AIDS.

Dining

• Randy’s Donuts , Serra Mesa | May 3 | The LA-based donut chain is finally heading to sweet San Diego.
• Malibu Farm , Seaport Village | Summer 2023 | This SoCal-inspired restaurant will move into the 14,000-sqft space that was once Harbor House and offer food, views, an an espresso bar .
• Techo Beso , Gaslamp Quarter | May 2023 | This is what’s up downtown. The rooftop restaurant sits atop the AC Hotel and will offer Mexican-inspired cuisine and stunning views of the city.
• Chick & Hawk , Encinitas | Summer 2023 | Tony Hawk’s love for fried chicken will be skating into North County this summer when he debuts this “fast-fine” restaurant.
• Raising Cane’s , El Cajon | June 2023 | A little birdie told us this fried chicken chain will open its seventh San Diego location soon.

Education

• Summer 2023 term, San Diego State University | Starts May 22 | If you want to enroll in a summer course, there are classes that last four, six, eight, or t2 weeks.
• Summer Session , UC San Diego | Starts July 3 + Aug. 7 | Learn something new — this university operates on a quarter system, and there are two enrollment periods during the summer quarter.
• Summer Session , San Diego Community College District | June 5 | Open enrollment begins on Friday, April 28, for the summer term and classes start in early June. If you’re looking to enroll in a fall course, registration begins Monday, May 22.

Recreation

• Loma Verde Pool And Recreation Center , Chula Vista | Summer 2023 | This recreation project will make a splash when it brings pools, fitness spaces, splash pads, and more community gathering facilities.

• Arctic Rescue , SeaWorld San Diego | Spring 2023 | San Diego’s coolest coaster is getting ready to open after construction broke ground in September 2022. It will reach speeds of 40 mph and provide riders with an educational adventure.
• Toucan Play , Chula Vista | Spring 2023 | Kids will love playing at this indoor playground. The business also offers a space for parties and gatherings, drop-in care, and interactive events.

Retail

• Aldi , El Cajon | April 27 | Add this to your shopping list — the budget-friendly grocer is opens this new East County location tomorrow at 8 a.m.
• Dolce & Gabbana , Fashion Valley Mall | Spring or summer 2023 | The high-end designer is bringing its runway looks to this fashionable retail center.
• Costco , Escondido | TBA | The big-box retailer signed an agreement to take over the former Sears location and help revitalize the North County Mall.
• Target , East Village | Summer 2023 | A 36,000-sqft, urban Target will anchor the Radian apartments that are expected to start leasing in June. The opening date for this store is yet to be announced, but Radian staff told SDtoday is could be as soon as July.

Residential

• Radian , East Village | June | This luxury apartment complex offers high-end amenities like a rooftop pool and spa, fitness center, yoga studio, and dog park.
• Simone , Little Italy | Spring 2023 | Touted as “Little Italy’s most stylish new residence,” this complex soars 36-stories high and will have 395 units . It features luxury amenities like pet areas, a speakeasy, and a rooftop lounge and pool.

• Mission + Garnet , Pacific Beach | This 6-restaurant food hall is located near the beach and offers a collection of local cuisines, from breakfast burritos and salads to churros.
• Torsap Thai Kitchen , Carlsbad | The Square at Bressi Ranch welcomed this contemporary Thai restaurant that offers award-winning cuisine and luxury decor.
• California English , Sorrento Valley | Celebrity chef Richard Blais is the executive chef at this Sorrento Valley eatery that puts a SoCal-spin on UK dishes.

Community

• Hillcrest Youth Center , Hillcrest | Inside this LGBTQ+ community center, you’ll find gathering spaces and resources to help young San Diegans find health services, housing, and necessary support.
• Lakeside Library | This 16,800-sqft, Zero Net Energy building tripled the size of Lakeside’s prior library and brings community resources and gathering spaces.
• Park Boulevard Bike Lanes , Balboa Park | Spring 2023 | This project provided dedicated lanes near Balboa Park for buses and bikes. It’s receiving its finishing touches, but riders should now be able to access the bike lanes .
• West Mission Bay Drive Bridge | This project overhauled the original bridge — built in the 1950s — to add six lanes of traffic and paths for bikers and pedestrians.

Entertainment

• The Sound , Del Mar | This new, mid-sized music hall is located on the Del Mar Fairgrounds and brings the noise with to its 1,900-person audience.

Residential

• Villa Serena , San Marcos | Find a 1, 2, or 3 BD apartment at this affordable, gated complex. Residents can enjoy the community’s pool, proximity to public transit, and outdoor play areas.
• The Oppenheim Group , La Jolla | Known for its involvement in the Netflix show “Selling Sunset,” this real estate company now has an office in La Jolla.

Recreation

• South Lake Park , San Marcos | This 10-acre outdoor area has been transformed into a recreational space with a 1-mile trail and fishing areas.

Retail

• HerbN Joy , Chula Vista | Whether you’re a pro or new to the cannabis scene, this boutique-style store has “budtenders” that will help you find the right products for your needs.

Business

• Apple , Rancho Bernardo | Last year, the tech giant purchased a 67.5-acre campus in the North County community with the goal of employing 5,000 people by 2026.
