A new mini park will have a big impact in Bankers Hill. City leaders have broken ground on the Olive Street Park — a 0.6-acre community space that will take over the vacant lot at 2772 Third Ave.

The $2.3 million construction project will bring public, outdoor space to an area that is mostly residential. Amenities
will include:
- Fitness equipment and a playground structure
- Open, grassy areas with ADA-compliant pathways
- An observation deck overlooking Maple Canyon
The park will also have the city’s first memorial dedicated to the 8,000+ San Diegans who have died from AIDS. This has been a long time coming, as activists have proposed building a tribute since 1994.
The project is expected to take 13 months to complete, with a substantial portion of the construction finished by this winter .
