The Grand Wheel . The wild, fried fare . The summer concerts on the Grandstand Stage . All this could only mean one thing: The San Diego County Fair returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds from Wed., June 8-Mon., July 4.

The longtime event began as an agricultural fair in 1880. In 1936, it moved to Del Mar where it has grown into a summertime staple — and one of the largest county fairs in the United States. This year marks the fair’s first full-scale edition since 2019, so we want to prep you with everything you need to know before you go. Ride with us.

🍗 The fried fair fare

As always, expect a lot of fried food along the midway and bacon-wrapped concoctions.

Pro tip: We always gravitate towards Chicken Charlie’s to see what’s new in the world of deep-fried fair fare — this year, it’s the “Kool-Aid Fried Chicken Sandwich” tossed in a sweet + tangy sauce. Oh yeah . Also, check out the fried avocadosit shouldn’t work yet, somehow, it does. Save room for sweet treats from all kinds of vendors, too.
