The Children’s Park reopens in downtown San Diego

The park in the Marina District has new spaces for children, adults, and dogs, plus it features a public art installation.

Game, on: It’s playtime at Children’s Park. The city has officially completed its revitalization of the downtown San Diego park at 326 W. Harbor Dr. in the Marina District.

The $9 million effort to transform the 1.4-acre space has been in the works since before the pandemic, which has resulted in delays. The redesigned park includes:

  • A children’s play area and exercise equipment for adults
  • An off-leash dog area
  • Lawn games and picnicking equipment
  • A public walkway through the Civic Pond
  • A public restroom that will be staffed by an attendant
  • Petrichor ” — a public art sculpture commissioned by the city, created by Miki Iwasaki

According to Mayor Todd Gloria, a food and drinks vendor will be coming soon to the park, too. This project is part of an ongoing effort to increase and redevelop outdoor, public spaces , especially in urban parts of San Diego.
