SD’s food scene takes it up a notch with several “Taste Of” events this month: Old Town on Thursday, Sept. 11; South Park on Saturday, Sept. 13; Gaslamp on Saturday, Sept. 20; College Area on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Mission Bagel is now open on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, serving New York-inspired bagels with a “snap and a chew.” The shop began as a bagel food truck along Grand Avenue and owner Gabe Rubin plans to also keep both locations rolling strong. (San Diego Magazine)

Save the date: The 2025 Holiday Bowl will kickoff at 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2026, at Snapdragon Stadium — the first time the big game has been played in January rather than late December. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this month. (KPBS)
Eat
Cookware company Le Creuset teamed up with Secret Supper to offer a top secret dining experience across three US cities, and the series concludes with a special dinner in SD on Thursday, Oct. 16. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. today; the location will be revealed 24 hours before the event.
La Mesa Oktoberfest is coming to La Mesa Village Friday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 5, with lots of music, food, ales, and tails. Attendees can expect the return of Dackeldorf Dachshund Village, an area dedicated to wiener dog races, pup parades, and a doggy fashion show. Truly, it’s cuteness overload.
Civic
The city is seeking development proposals to transform downtown’s old Central Library into something that “better serves our residents.” Whoever buys or leases the vacant 1954 building spanning half a city block would need to convert at least 25% of it into lower-income housing. Proposals are due Monday, Nov. 3.
Outdoors
Happy trails, to you. The San Diego Natural History Museum just released its 2025-2026 Canyoneer hikes schedule — free, guided treks led by a group of volunteer naturalists who’ve been part of The Nat since 1973. The hikes run weekly from September to June starting this Sunday, Sept. 7; register ahead of time.

Never forget.Harrah’s Resort Southern California will host its annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The public is invited to climb 110 flights of stairs in honor of the World Trade Center while carrying a photo of a fallen first responder.
