Labor Day weekend is here and we are doing the hard work to make sure you don’t waste a minute of it. Here are the top events you have to check out this long weekend.
  • Miami (OH) vs. Wisconsin Football | Thursday, Aug. 28 | 8 p.m. | Camp Randall Stadium | Football season is back, so grab a brat and fill up your cup with an old fashioned.
  • Orton Park Festival | Friday, Aug. 29-Sunday, Aug. 31 | Times vary | Orton Park | Bring the family to this music-focused weekend that also has a vendor village, community art projects, and activity tents.
  • Madison Card Show | Saturday, Aug. 30-Sunday, Aug. 31 | Times vary | Alliant Energy Stadium | More than 250 dealers will be selling rare cards, ranging from pop culture to sports.
  • Shifting Gears Bike Path Dance Festival | Monday, Sept. 1 | 12-6 p.m. | Bring your bike, scooter, or running shoes and make stops at multiple parks to watch performers.

Kids Concerts in the Park: Black Star Drumline | 5:30 p.m. | Monona Public Library | Free | Let your little ones bang on drums all night at this outdoor concert led by a Grammy-nominated musician.

Friday, Aug. 29

Bop To The Top | 9:30 p.m. | Majestic Theatre | $37 | Kids can party at this club that has a DJ spinning hit songs from new and classic Disney films.

Saturday, Aug. 30

Rockin Brews Marathon | 8 a.m.-2 p.m. | Winnequah Park, Monona | $45+ | Lace up your running shoes for a marathon, half marathon, and a 5K, or support your favorite runner and enjoy a celebratory beer together afterwards.

Sunday, Aug. 31

Yoga with Kelsey | 9-10 a.m. | Goodman Community Center | $5 | Drop into a Sunday morning session that offers modifications for all skill levels.

Underdog Pet Rescue Fundraiser | 3-6 p.m. | The Kickback, Middleton | Free | Each dollar from pint sales will be donated to help local pups in need, so sip a few for a good cause.

Monday, Sept. 1

LaborFest 2025 | 12-5:30 p.m. | Madison Labor Temple | Free | Don’t work too hard at this fun festival that features two magic shows, food carts, and activities for children.

Portland vs Wisconsin Badgers Soccer | 7-9 p.m. | McClimon Track/Soccer Complex | Free | Round out your Labor Day weekend by cheering on the Badgers on the football —although not that kind of football — field.

To celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month (and 150 years of Madison Public Library), 608ers can score a limited-edition card designed by local artist Jaundy Brunswick. Available in two phases:
  • September: New cardholders can sign up online or in person. Online cards arrive by mail within one to two weeks.
  • October: Existing members can swap their current card in-person (note: this changes your card number).
Psst... Supplies are limited. Prefer to keep your current number? Ask for a commemorative sticker instead.

Eat

Lane’s Bakery is coming back, just in a different form. It will no longer offer sales through a retail front, but you can get your hands on its delicious items through TnT’s Catering. (Wisconsin State Journal)

Outdoors

It’s not an eclipse, but it’s still a rare lunar event. Keep your eyes to the sky tomorrow night to see a Black Moon, which is when the moon is in its 3rd new phase in an astronomical season. Don’t miss it, or you’ll have to wait upwards of three years. (WMTV 15)

Community

Forget Labubus — we’ve got our eyes set on a limited-edition Madison Public Library card. They were designed by a local artist and celebrate 150 years of reading. New members can get their card in September and existing members can do the same in October. (WMTV 15)

Sports

The Badgers will be looking extra sharp in their rivalry matchup against Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 11. The university unveiled its throwback uniforms and they are an immediate add to shopping cart for us.

Watch

Take a stroll through the recently rebuilt section of Wilson Street without leaving your chair. Madison Police filmed an impressive drone video of the area, which opened last week. (Wisconsin State Journal)

Pets

Dane County Humane Society reported 80 animals were adopted during the finale of their Clear the Shelter event. This includes plenty of pups, cats, and even a few farm friends. That’s quite the way to celebrate 100 years. (Wisconsin State Journal)
