Change, change, change — 300 parking meters that’ll charge $2.50 per hour daily, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., will be installed along 6th Avenue and Park Boulevard near Balboa Park. They’re part of the city’s parking management proposal for Balboa Park, which includes tiered parking rates at the landmark for the first time in history. (CBS8)
Opening
San Diego International Airport will debut a new entrance roadway tomorrow, Aug. 1, as part of the New T1. The three-lane roadway has no intersections or traffic lights and is designed to provide quicker access to the terminals. The entrance is at North Harbor Drive + West Laurel Street — look for overhead signs.
Civic
City council advanced a plan to transform downtown’s embattled, long-vacant 101 Ash St. office building into 247 affordable housing apartments for those earning 30-80% of the area median income. The project, funded mainly through federal tax credits, will include 25,000-sqft of retail space + a childcare center. (CBS8)

Mom’s Chicken & Waffle has found a new home. The North Park restaurant will relocate this fall from University Avenue to a familiar spot that sizzled with beloved breakfast dishes for 50+ years — the former site of Lucky’s Golden Phenix, now on the newly renamed “Lucky Lane.”
Health
US News and World Report’s annual Best Hospitals rankings named UC San Diego Health No. 9 nationally and No. 1 in SD. The local health care provider maintained its rankings across several specialties, including cancer and cardiology + vascular surgery, but missed the publication’s honor roll. Development
The playground, restrooms, and fishing pier at National City’s Pepper Park are temporarily closed as construction continues on the park’s $8 million renovation project. Phase 1 improvements will add a pirate-themed playground, splash pad, perched beach, terrace, and picnic area. The park is scheduled to reopen in early 2026. (Times of San Diego)
