If you build it, they will come. “Esquire” named the Skyline Lounge at Carlsbad’s Legoland Hotel among the Best Bars in America. The rankings touted the bar as perfect for exhausted parents — “not since the invention of the airport bar has a drinking establishment been so perfectly essential to its environment.”

Hotel del Coronado’s six-year, $550 million renovation is officially complete. The Del unveiled upgrades yesterday to its historic Victorian building, garden courtyard, event spaces, and new restaurants. San Diego’s lone James Beard Award finalist Chef Tara Monsod didn’t bring home the 2025 title, but as always, she repped our city with talent + grace. You can experience Monsod’s culinary prowess at Animae in downtown San Diego and Le Coq in La Jolla. You make us proud, chef. (Eater San Diego)

City Tacos will close its East Village location adjacent to Petco Park on Monday, June 30. The San Diego Padres are taking over the leased spot to add offices and restaurant + entertainment spaces for games and ballpark events. Downtown Skate — the outdoor roller rink that debuted last year at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina — will return for a summertime run Friday, June 27-Wednesday, July 9. The pop-up will feature live DJ sets on weekends, plus local snack vendors + Cutwater cocktails. Book your skating sesh and roll on over.

Feeding San Diego launched ~30 summer meal + food distribution sites to support local kids and families facing food insecurity this season. The nonprofit says $1 can provide up to two meals to locals in need — donations are always welcome.

The Wrap

This is not a mirage. The Museum of Illusions is now open on Fifth Street in downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter. The space features 80+ mind-bending exhibits, including SD-inspired installations like the surf-themed Reversed Room.

I visited the museum this week and can confirm, “nothing is ever quite as it seems” — don’t worry, there are not really 1,000 Monicas in your inbox today. Grab tickets and check it out.
