Guy Fieri, the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Flavortown,” has ventured to San Diego many times for his Food Network TV show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (“DDD”), to give his flamin’ hot seal of approval to local restaurants.
Now we’re leading the tour. Here are all 23 local spots that Fieri has visited on “DDD” — so far — based on when they first appeared on the show.
Ramona Café
The first time San Diego County ever appeared on “DDD” was on this “Totally Fried” episode when Fieri stopped by this small-town favorite. He sampled some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, like the fried chicken cordon bleu and the giant cinnamon rolls.
El Indio
All the way back in season 2, Fieri visited this family-owned Mexican restaurant in Middletown. It’s known for its fresh tortillas, and legend has it, the first taquito.

Did you know San Diego is located next to the Pacific Ocean?
Nah, just kidding. If you know us, you know we’re here for the deep cuts — and there are plenty of interesting factoids to go around. Maybe you’ve lived here your whole life and know some of this, or maybe you’ll learn something new. Either way, test your local knowledge with these 15 interesting facts.
1. Don’t listen to Ron Burgundy, San Diego was named for St. Didacus of Alcalá (aka Diego de San Nicolás). He died on Nov. 12, 1463, but his feast day is celebrated on Nov. 13.
2. In 1942, Balboa Park was temporarily closed to the public and renamed “Camp Kidd” during World War II. The space was used for military training, housing, education, and medical needs — and it wasn’t the first time — the park was used by the military for WWI.

Hey there, San Diego. I’m Mitch and I’ll be holding down the fort while the wonderful Monica is away on a well-earned vacation.
Fun fact: I met Guy Fieri at a food expo and convention in 2009. In case you were wondering, he was just as friendly and charismatic in person as he is on TV. He signed my apron (“Mitch is munee”) and we even took a photo afterwards.
