As a longtime rock for the research and understanding of our region’s one-of-a-kind biodiversity, the museum’s roots are deeply intertwined with the curious scientists and naturalists who helped shape its history. Our friends at the museum invited us into their library archives to unearth the stories of six incredible local women who helped shape The Nat.

San Marcos is getting a new hospital. Scripps Health will build its 13-acre Scripps San Marcos Medical Center campus south of state Route 78 near Twin Oaks Valley Parkway. The phased plan includes an ambulatory facility with physician offices, cancer care, and labs, followed by a 250-bed acute care hospital.

A tasty trifecta is happening at the corner of 30th and Beech streets in South Park. The area dubbed South Park Commons is now home to a new neighborhood bar called Bock with 30 beers on tap, a Stella Jean’s Ice Cream shop, and a Pop Pie Co. location.

The Remedy Lounge — “an apothecary-inspired elixir bar” featuring eight curated beverages meant to rejuvenate mind and body — will debut on Friday, March 28 at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa. The drinks are crafted with herbs, florals, and spices; food pairings will also be found on the menu.
Opening
Birch Aquarium’s new “Living Seas” exhibition will debut on Thursday, May 22. The exhibition — which replaces the “Hall of Fishes” — explores the ocean from the Pacific Northwest and Coastal California to the Tropical Pacific. It’s the largest capital improvement to the aquarium since it was built in 1992.
Arts
San Diego International Airport is seeking local artists, collectives, and community groups to submit proposals for “Snapshot San Diego,” the inaugural exhibition coming to the New T1. The display will aim to tell “authentic, accessible, and focused stories of the region.” Applications are due by Sunday, April 13.

Friar Faithful, we see you. The East Village Block Party will return to J Street from 6th to 10th avenues on Saturday, March 29, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Usher in the 2025 Padres season alongside fellow fans while enjoying live music, a car show, family-friendly activities, and local vendors.

For the first time since 2019, the San Diego County Fair is selling season passes. A $65 standard pass gets you access to all 20 days of the fair — Wednesday, June 11 to Sunday, July 6 — but doesn’t include rides, games, concerts, or parking.

Here’s the tee — the Farmers Insurance Open will return to Torrey Pines Golf Course next year. The prestigious PGA Tour tournament will be played from Jan. 29, 2026 to Feb. 1, 2026 — a Thursday-Sunday schedule rather than the Wednesday-Saturday program that’s been in place since 2022.

Museums are the cultural hubs of San Diego. Whether you’re looking to learn something new about America’s Finest City or plotting a way to spend your Saturday afternoon, here are 28 museums to visit in our city.
