TV personality and restaurateur Guy Fieri has ventured to San Diego County many times for his Food Network show, “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” (“DDD”), and 20+ restaurants have received his flamin'-hot seal of approval.
Now, we’re leading the tour of hot spots recommended by the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Flavortown.”
Ramona Café
The first time the county ever appeared on “DDD” was on this “Totally Fried” episode in 2007 when Fieri stopped by this small-town favorite. He sampled some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes like the fried chicken cordon bleu and the giant cinnamon rolls
Bluewater Seafood Market & Grill
During a season 6 episode, Fieri caught some fresh seafood at this Middletown spot. Here, every dish is made with local catches seasoned and prepared to bring out the flavors.
A place as cool as Crest Cafe belongs in Hillcrest.

Crest Cafe
In 2013, this Hillcrest staple was declared a “Neighborhood Knockout” when Fieri gave his stamp of approval for the melt-in-your-mouth Butter Burger.
Chuy’s Taco Shop
This restaurant was the perfect addition for the “British, Hawaiian and Mexican” episode. Here, Fieri dug into the Shrimp a La Diabla and the namesake Chuy Burrito made with seasoned carne asada and chile relleno.
NOLA on 5th
This Hillcrest restaurant was featured as one of the show’s “West Coast Wonders,” but it’s all about New Orleans-style dining — including a jazzy cocktail menu and the occasional crawfish boil.

Today is Giving Tuesday, and what better way to celebrate the power of generosity and community than by checking out volunteer opportunities in San Diego.
Here are ways to give back to SD this season — and beyond.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego | Step up to care for families whose children are hospitalized by providing the comforts of home — meals, activities, hospitality — to make an overwhelming situation more manageable. Give here, too.
San Diego Food Bank | Clean and pack fresh produce for distribution, inspect and label donations, assemble packages for San Diegans facing food insecurity, or donate to help fellow San Diegans facing hunger.
Alpha Project | Organize donation drives for essential supplies like shampoo, toothbrushes, blankets, socks, and bottled water to distribute to locals experiencing homelessness — or find other ways to help.
Second Chance Dog Rescue | Volunteer at adoption events, transport animals to veterinarians, help with community outreach, or donate.
Good morning, San Diego. Over the weekend, I took a walk in Balboa Park. It was warm and sunny — despite the Old Globe’s holiday tree and Santa’s sleigh dashing toward Spreckels Organ Pavilion. The signs are clear: December Nights is right around the corner; it’s only three days away.
