⭐ 12 stellar neighborhoods

The zodiac signs interpreted as San Diego neighborhoods

One of the most lovable things about San Diego is the distinct character found in each neighborhood. They all have their own personalities and purposes — as if it were written in the stars. Let’s look at how our neighborhoods align with the zodiac signs.

Scorpio: East Village | Oct. 23-Nov. 21

The thriving aura of East Village and its colorful, public street art encapsulates this water sign.

This downtown SD neighborhood spans 130 blocks and includes Petco Park and hundreds of local businesses. The restaurant scene is strong, as are the neighborhood’s constant community events.

SD Embarcadero downtown San Diego

Embarcadero offers plenty of adventure for the Sagittarius.

Sagittarius: Embarcadero | Nov. 22-Dec. 21

As an adventure seeker, you’ll be able to make a speedy getaway from Embarcadero with easy access to San Diego International Airport, San Diego Bay, and Interstate 5.

This sign’s need for constant change and adventure can be fed by quick jaunts to nearby Coronado Island or local spots like The Rady Shell or USS Midway Museum.

Capricorn: University Heights | Dec. 22- Jan. 19

With how hardworking you are, you’ll be pleased to hear there are plenty of spots in University Heights to work remotely — especially at cute coffee shops like Lestat’s on Park. When it’s time to cut loose, Capricorns will have plenty of food, drink, and recreation options.

SD spring in San Diego Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach is always a good idea.

Aquarius: Ocean Beach | Jan. 20-Feb. 18

The unique businesses and general vibe of the OB community embody the eclectic nature of an Aquarius.

We recommend heading straight to Newport Avenue and grabbing a one-of-a-kind burger from Hodad’s or a barrel-aged sour beer from California Wild Ales. On Voltaire Street, check out City Tacos’ colorful OB Playground and the quirky merch at Vervor Shop.

Last month, we chatted with Balboa Park Carousel Manager Bill Brown, a San Diegan who’s been proudly working at the landmark ride for the past 51 years.

Brown has seen generations of locals grow up at the carousel (and play that Brass Ring game). Here are some memories from SDtoday readers:
  • Patti B.: “As a kid, I remember the joy of trying to snag the golden ring! I’m 80 now and still have fond memories of the Merry-Go-Round!”
  • James R.: “Pulling the rings for my kiddos! They love the carousel.”
  • Erin P.: “It was a great day anytime the carousel was open and my grandma or parents decided I could ride. It [brings] good memories and reminds me of being a happy kid (which I was most of the time!).”
  • Marlo B.: “I was one of those kids! I will have to bring my grandkids.”
  • Laura C.: “My dad would take me to Balboa Park every Sunday as a little girl and I would ride the carousel. Bill taught me how to play the Brass game when I was finally old enough! I recently got to take my son and it was so beautiful saying ‘hi’ to Bill and knowing that my son gets to experience the carousel with Bill just like I did when I was a little girl. Truly a San Diego treasure!”

Happy Friday. The local lineup of Día de los Muertos events is strong this year. The first big celebration — Oceanside Día de los Muertos Festival — goes down this Sunday, Oct. 22, in downtown Oceanside, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Expect colorful ofrendas, a car show, entertainment, food vendors, and a chalk cemetery where the public can draw memorials dedicated to loved ones who have died. Lindísimo, SD.
