City Council has voted to extend the city’s deadline by three years to review 300+ surveillance technology tools across departments — from car trackers and fingerprint scanners to drones. The work has been underway for a year, but not a single tool has made it through the review process. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
Development
AMLI Residential has broken ground on AMLI Aero, a seven-story, luxury rental development at 3585 Aero Court in Kearny Mesa. The building will offer 434 apartment units and is slated to be completed in May 2025. It’s part of the ongoing Kearny Mesa Community Plan adopted in November 2020.
Festival
OK, Comic-Con has officially arrived. Downtown San Diego’s buildings are all dressed up for the pop culture party, including the Marriott Marquis, which boasts a 36,000-sqft installation showcasing popular shows on Paramount+. We’ve also spotted wraps dedicated to “Interview with a Vampire,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “GenV.”

San Diego Wave FC and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced San Diego will host the 2023 NWSL Championship on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Snapdragon Stadium. This will mark the league’s 10th annual championship match; register for priority access to ticket sales.

Researchers from SDSU’s Center for Comics Studies will lead several San Diego Comic-Con panels covering topics like social and racial justice, activism, science, and academics as they relate to comics. The Mountain West and Aztecs dispute appears to be resolved — with conditions. There was speculation the team would leave the conference but both sides are reportedly coming to an agreement that includes SDSU paying the conference’s legal fees.
