Much a-dough about Randy’s
Randy’s Donuts is making its San Diego debut

You donut want to miss this: Randy’s Donuts is opening its Serra Mesa location tomorrow at 6 a.m. with lots of sweet treats and prizes for its first customers. This is the chain’s first store in San Diego, but there’s a hole lot more in the works.
What’s the big deal?
Randy’s Donuts opened in Los Angeles in 1952, and it may be home to the most famous donut in the world. Atop its Inglewood shop — the original “Randy’s” location — is a 32-ft steel wheel designed to look like a glazed donut. This landmark has been known to greet people as they land at Los Angeles International Airport, and the shop has made famous cameos, like its appearance in “Iron Man 2.”
Since its debut, Randy’s has opened many more shops, but the Serra Mesa store will be its first time baking in San Diego. And we know there’s always room for more donuts.
Last year Randy’s announced plans to open at least 10 local stores. While a second location hasn’t been announced yet, the brand told Eater San Diego it was eyeing spots in South Bay, downtown, El Cajon, San Marcos, and Escondido.
We’re cool with this filling.

Let’s eat
Before your eyes glaze over, let’s talk donuts. Randy’s is home to 60+ varieties of donuts ranging from classic to premium — mostly under $3 each. How do these sound?
Cinnamon Crumb Cake
Bacon Maple Long John
Lemon Jelly Filled donut
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Raised donut
That’s just a tasting, and the San Diego shop will be one of the first to introduce the ice cream donut sandwich — a warm donut that gets its filling from Chula Vista-based Sadie’s Handcrafted Ice Cream. In addition to the sweet treats, Randy’s will keep you caffeinated with its coffee, espresso, iced drinks, and cold brews.

Good morning, San Diego. I’m so excited to try Randy’s Donuts, but I’ll still have room for my favorite treats. So, I’ll make sure to keep showing love to other local shops like Devil’s Dozen and Donut Bar. Plus, Monica tells me I need to try Mary’s Donuts in Santee, so my future is looking pretty sweet.
