  • The North County Transit District and SANDAG were awarded $100 million from the State of California Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program. This funding will help replace the 107-year-old San Dieguito River Railway Bridge in Del Mar and add 0.9-miles of double tracks to improve train services.
Real Estate
  • For the first time since May 2022, home sale prices in San Diego County rose in March 2023. According to CoreLogic data, prices jumped 5.3% (or $40,000) compared to February to an average of $790,000. Real estate agents believe low supply and competition drove the price increase. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
Drink
  • We’re lovin’ it — local McDonald’s restaurants have been selected to test the chain’s cold brew coffees. For a limited time, San Diego stores will serve the caffeinated drink and “Marble Cold Brew,” which is mixed with a creamy syrup and topped with a cream swirl. (Fox 5)

Most pictures are believed to be taken in the 1970s and 1980s in North County communities. Browse the collection on Flickr — if you have info, leave a comment. (The Coast News Group)

We’re pleased to announce that “life (west coast living)” by Irasema S. is the winner of our 2023 poetry contest.

This poem received the most votes from our audience. A big round of applause to our other finalists and everyone who participated in our contest — it was a true joy for the SDtoday editorial team to read what you came up with.

Now, we’re handing it over to Irasema to dazzle us with their creation.

“life (west coast living)”
a sunrise transcends oceanside in high tides
while enjoying your favorite coffee and watering healthy thinking
it is a game with a million rules
do partake in it
the exception is we’ll learn something
for it be a craft or to breathe after heavy rains
And allow it to clarify in damaged moments
please continue on your paths
to grant a tension-relieving surf in low tides
into a pink california sunset that celebrates the times
