Celebrate Super Bowl LVII in San Diego

Super Bowl LVII kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12. San Diego may not have a team in the game (or the NFL, anymore), but that doesn’t mean we won’t be watching.

If you’re a die-hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles, you’ll be in good company. We’ve drafted a list of game day locations where you can find your tribe.

🏈 Eagles

TORO, Gaslamp Quarter
This nightclub and Mexican cantina will welcome Philly fans at its Super Bowl Party equipped with live music, food and drink specials, and raffles.

Pretzels & Pints, North Park
This bar supports many sports teams, but don’t get it twisted — it will be loyal to the Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday.

Backyard Kitchen and Tap, Pacific Beach
Cheer for the Eagles with a special game day menu, giveaways, and raffles.

Tavern+Bowl, East Village
This bar and bowling alley has become a place where Eagles fans flock during game days to watch their team and enjoy drink specials.

🏈 Chiefs

Kansas City Barbeque, Embarcadero
When it comes to Chiefs bars, this place is San Diego’s “Top Gun.” Pro tip: Get your friends together and make a reservation, because this spot gets popular.

Home & Away, Old Town
This spot has cocktails, meal specials, and plenty of outdoor seating. You can bring the family — including your pups — and it’s safe to say this bar is a home away from home for Chiefs fans.

Break Point, Pacific Beach
Most days, this bar is known for its food, drinks, and bowling alleys — but on Super Bowl Sunday, it becomes a safe haven for Chiefs fans.

Just looking for a memorable time? San Diego will be filled with Super Bowl events, but you can take it to the next level. Visit The Draft at Belmont Park for a 31-ft LED screen, Slater’s 50/50 for a 22-TV, ticketed watch party with an open bar, or McGregor’s for a Puppy Bowl watch party to benefit Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Meet Cute in North Park is home to San Diego’s love stories

Romance Landia Meet Cute
Consider this a trip to Romancelandia, San Diego. | Photo via @professorromance
If you’re looking for a new love story this Valentine’s Day, your romantic quest won’t be hopeless. North Park is home to Meet Cute, San Diego’s only bookstore dedicated to the romance genre.

Owner Becca Title opened the independent store last fall, and the queer-owned feminist bookstore knows no two love stories are the same. Its shelves have space for a diverse range of tales, just in time for its first Valentine’s day. The store sprouted out of a love for the romance genre and welcomes enthusiasts and newcomers with its “Greetings from Romancelandia” mural.

You’ll definitely find a new page-turner on the shelves, but Meet Cute isn’t all about the books. It hopes to be a community for romance fans with events like book signings and its book club.

THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Michael Beausoleil.

Editor’s pick: Good morning, San Diego. I’m a little jealous that I missed out on the fun Monica had checking out the new exhibitions at the Comic-Con Museum. As a lifelong fan of “The Simpsons,” I know this is a fun experience.

The Springfield family doesn’t have a huge history in San Diego, but it’s safe to say they’ve visited at least once. In the season 25 episode “The Yellow Badge of Cowardge” the opening couch gag sees the family sitting at a Comic-Con panel.
