Where to ice skate in San Diego County this season

Ice skating in sunny San Diego? Oh, it’s possible alright.

A few ice skating rinks pop up this time of year that make us feel all sorts of wintry, even when it’s 75° and we’re changing from flip-flops into ice skates. Let’s glide across these seasonal options — and then some.

🌊 Skating by the Sea | Windsor Lawn, Hotel del Coronado
  • Dates: Daily, through Jan. 1, 2023
  • Hours: Vary by date
  • Tickets: $40 (includes 90 minutes of skating and skates rental; reserve in advance)
Ice meets the sand at this beachfront rink where you can skate next to stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. A portion of ticket sales benefits Make-A-Wish San Diego.

❄️ Rady Children’s Ice Rink | 2875 Dewey Rd., Liberty Station
  • Dates: Through Jan. 8, 2023 (closed on Thanksgiving + Christmas Day)
  • Hours: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily
  • Tickets: $15-$17 (includes skates rental)
Now in its 26th year, you can find this holiday hub in the Central Promenade at the ARTS DISTRICT. The attraction raises money for Rady Children’s Hospital, specifically its Thriving After Cancer program at the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

⛸️ Viejas Ice Skating Rink | 5003 Willows Rd., Viejas Outlet Center
  • Dates: Through Jan. 8, 2023
  • Hours: 3-10 p.m. (closed on Thanksgiving, special hours on other holidays)
  • Tickets: $18-$20 (includes 90 minutes of skating + skates rental)
According to Viejas, this East County attraction is SoCal’s largest outdoor ice rink. Pro tip: Get some holiday shopping done at the surrounding outlet stores.

🎄 Glice Rink | 5300 Grand Del Mar Ct., Fairmont Grand Del Mar
  • Dates: Weekends between Saturday, Nov. 26-Saturday, Jan. 14, and daily between Monday, Dec. 19-Sunday, Jan. 1
  • Hours: 12-8 p.m. on weekends, 4-8 p.m. on weekdays
  • Tickets: $19-$38 (includes one hour of skating + skates rental)
This eco-friendly rink is part of the resort’s holiday celebration, which also includes a festive food + crafts market.

  • The Board of Port Commissioners approved the National City Bayfront Port Master Plan amendment, which includes four projects that’ll improve amenities in the area made up of 273 acres of waterfront land and 167 acres of water. The projects include the expansion of Pepper Park and realignment of Marina Way. 🌊

Where to watch FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in San Diego

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 kicked off over the weekend and although the matches are a world away, there are plenty of ways to watch the action from San Diego. ⚽

Taprooms will open early during the Team Mexico matches: 8 a.m. today and 11 a.m. on both Saturday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 30. From Round 16 on, all three locations will open early for every game — including matches at 7 a.m. That’s commitment.
