San Diego Padres advance to National League Division Series: What to know

Let’s go, San Diego. 📣

The Padres eliminated the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card series over the weekend, winning the best-of-three series 2 games to 1. Now, they’re bound for the National League Division Series (NLDS) and a showdown against the Dodgers begins tonight.

Let’s take a look at what’s next for the Friars’ postseasonand when they’ll get to play in front of the hometown crowd.
  • Game 1 of the NLDS is tonight in SoCal rival territory: Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles at 6:37 p.m.
  • Game 2 is tomorrow — also in LA — at 5:37 p.m.
  • Then, it’s home turf time. On Fri., Oct. 14, the teams will head to Petco Park in San Diego for Game 3 — the first time fans will be able to watch the Padres play postseason ball in person since 2006 (they played at home in the 2020 MLB playoffs, but no fans were allowed inside the ballpark).
  • The NLDS win is best of five games, so that means the Padres have to win three games to move on. Let’s manifest only good things here, people.
  • If neither team wins the series in a sweep, Game 4 will be here at home on Sat., Oct. 15.
  • And if the rivals go 2-2, a tie-breaker Game 5 will go down in LA on Sun., Oct. 16.
  • If the Padres win this week’s NLDS, they’ll go on to play in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). That starts Tues., Oct. 18.
  • The winner of the NLCS goes to the World Series, set to start on Fri., Oct. 28.

Meanwhile, San Diego has been buzzing with Padres fandomwe dare you to go outside without seeing a Friar Faithful dripping in Padres gear. It’s a whole vibe right now.

Time to shine, SD. ✨

We’re always on the lookout for a good happy hour in our city. Over the summer, we shared this roundup of happy hour deals in downtown San Diego — and now it’s time to add a couple more spots to our list because the more the merrier. 🥂

Weekday wildness
  • Madam Bonnie’s | Tuesday-Saturday, 4:30-6:30 p.m. | The Gaslamp Quarter lounge offers a sizable happy hour selection that includes a skinny margarita, paloma or manhattan — each for $12. For snacks, try the $12 rotisserie chicken sliders. 🥃
Hungry for meal deals
  • Gaslamp Fish House | Daily, 3:30-6 p.m. | The happy hour grub deals are plentiful — by land and sea — including oysters on the half shell at $1.25 a pop, bacon-wrapped swordfish bites, specialty tacos, and pear + brie flatbreads. 🦪

THE WRAP

Editor’s pick: This is Halloween, this is Halloween. 🎶

I took my little ones to Sesame Place San Diego to enjoy the Halloween-themed dance party, parade + character meet-and-greets. They loved getting into the spirit of the season — and we were still able to enjoy a few water attractions that are open through the end of this month. 🎃

Pro tip: Buy a special Halloween tote bag from the souvenir shop; this can be used to trick-or-treat at several candy carts around the theme park.
