Housed inside a nondescript brick building adjacent to the park at 1960 National Ave., the CMPCC will feature exhibitions designed to educate visitors about local Chicana/o, Latina/o, and Indigenous culture + history. Let’s check it out.
The 10,000-sqft CPMCC will be open for everyone to enjoy — a place where locals can take pride in the community + build relationships.
The public will be invited to educational classes + activities focused on literature, science, history, and — of course — arts.
“By preserving a history of struggle, we will educate and empower individuals to become agents of change in their own communities,” the museum’s mission states.
There’s no other place in the world like Chicano Park in Barrio Logan.

🎨 A vibrant foundation
The 7.4-acre Chicano Park located beneath the San Diego-Coronado Bridge is an outdoor “museum” of muralsunlike anything else — a symbol of activism + community. More than 80 works of art cover its concrete pillars, making it the largest concentration of Chicano murals in the world. Check out our Instagram feed to see the park today.
Meanwhile, the CPMCC has long been in the works. In 2018, the San Diego City Council voted to approve a 20-year lease for the museum site. You can donate to the CPMCC to keep the movement going.

Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) volunteer trail guides will host a “Bat Walk” on Sat., Oct. 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. — aninterpretive, educational talkall about bats — the nighttime creatures that the park dubs “misunderstood aerialists.”
Attendees should register ahead of time for the free outdoors event (the early bat catches the spot) — and bring a flashlight. The group will meet in the parking lot at the corner of Bushy Hill Drive + Father Junipero Serra Trail.
Several weeks ago, MTRP posted a video of a canyon bat that made its way into the Visitor Center. Rangers gently caught it and set it free outside. They’re out there.
According to the San Diego Zoo, there are 47 bat species in the US, with 23 in San Diego County. Our region is home to the largest bat in North America, the Western mastiff bat with a wingspan of 22+ inches.
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Monica.
Editor’s pick: Us San Diegans lovea food hall. I’m always drawn to the Little Italy Food Hall on West Date Street — it’s just so easy to navigate.
My latest trip included a craft brew from the Food Hall Bar + a “Not So Basic Burger” from Samburgers — one of Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien’s eateries. After a nice walk around the neighborhood, the combo hits just right. 🍔
