Breaking down the numbers
Hypothetically speaking, if you live in a household that brings in $50,000 annually – according to experts — you shouldn’t spend more than 30% of your monthly gross income on rent and utilities. Don’t worry, we did the math for you — your max monthly budget would be $1,250. The average monthly rent for an apartment in San Diego is $2,916 — more than doubling that allowance.
According to a recent study by Attom Data Solutions, it’s actually more affordable to rent in San Diego County than to buy a home.

What the shell? San Diego is onlyNo. 8 on Clever’s list of best taco cities in America. The ranking used quantitative data like the number of taco restaurants, average Yelp scores + “taco passion” based on Google searches. While we think we’re the best, we did earn one superlative — best city for Taco Tuesdays. 🌮 (Clever)
Americans think San Diego is looking pretty good based on Home Bay’s best + worst places to live in the US. Based on a survey of 1,000 people, our city was ranked as the No. 3 most desirable. But not everyone was a fan, we were also No. 10 on the list of most overrated cities. 🏠 (Home Bay)

THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Michael.
Editor’s pick:Happy Monday, San Diego. I always like to start my week with an energy boost from a local coffee shop, and I’m infatuated with The Invigatorium in East Village. It’s partnered with Modern Times, so it knows a thing or two about brewing (coffee or beer). If the caffeine doesn’t wake you up, the eye-popping decor certainly will.
