We know San Diegans love to give. After all, we are No. 21 among the “Most Caring Cities” + No. 47 among the “Most Generous Cities” in America. In the spirit of the season of giving, we’ve rounded up four San Diego nonprofit organizations doing great work in our communities. So, as you’re making your holiday gifting list, consider donating to these organizations.

🎁 The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank
This longtime nonprofit — along with its North County Food Bank chapter — makes up the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, at the peak of the pandemic, the San Diego Food Bank distributed 63 million pounds of food, helping an average of 550,000 San Diegans per month. For every $1 donated, five meals can be provided. Donate here.

🎁 Father Joe’s Villages
This nonprofit was established in 1950 to help San Diegans experiencing homelessness. Today, Father Joe’s mission (and namesake Father Joe Carroll’s legacy) is stronger than ever, with programs housing 2,000+ locals nightly. The nonprofit also works to address affordable housing in our city through its Turning the Key initiative. Donate here.

🎁 San Diego Humane Society
With campuses in San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside + Ramona, this nonprofit cares for more than 40,000 animals annually. SDHS’ paw-sitive service also includes finding furry companions forever homes. Donate here. Or, if you’re looking to adopt a pet, start here.

🎁 I Love A Clean San Diego
Our city is beautiful, and I Love A Clean San Diego wants to keep it that way. The nonprofit — founded in 1954 — works to conserve + enhance our environment with a vision for a zero-waste, litter-free San Diego. Through community clean-up events, ILACSD volunteers remove half a million pounds of debris annually from our local coastline, creeks + canyons. Donate here.
