The Grand Wheel. The wild, fried fare. The summer concerts on the Grandstand Stage. All this could only mean one thing: The San Diego County Fair returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds from Wed., June 8-Mon., July 4.

The longtime event began as an agricultural fair in 1880. In 1936, it moved to Del Mar where it has grown into a summertime staple — and one of the largest county fairs in the United States. This year marks the fair’s first full-scale edition since 2019, so we want to prep you with everything you need to know before you go. Ride with us.

Heroes ReUnite!” is this season’s theme. We hear there’s a Hall of Heroes Theme Exhibit where you can test your superpowers with interactive physical challenges + brush up on the history of superheroes. Community heroes will be honored, too — everyday folks who make San Diego a better place.

🍗 The fried fair fare

As always, expect a lot of fried food along the midway and bacon-wrapped concoctions.

Pro tip: We always gravitate towards Chicken Charlie’s to see what’s new in the world of deep-fried fair fare — this year, it’s the “Kool-Aid Fried Chicken Sandwich” tossed in a sweet + tangy sauce. Oh yeah. Also, check out the fried avocadosit shouldn’t work yet, somehow, it does. Save room for sweet treats from all kinds of vendors, too.
