How San Diegans can help victims of the Los Angeles wildfires

To LA, with love — here’s how SD can help victims of the devastating January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles.

San Diego stands with Los Angeles. More than 60 San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel have joined other San Diego fire agencies helping LA amid the wildfires.

If you’re looking for ways to help victims impacted by LA County’s devastating wildfires, we’ve gathered a few resources.

Feeding San Diego

The local hunger relief organization is collecting essential supplies to take to the LA Regional Food Bank in the coming weeks. The most-needed items include bottled water, packaged + shelf-stable snacks, and non-perishable meals. You can drop off donations at Feeding San Diego’s office — 8477 Waples St., Ste. 100 — Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. You can also drop off donations at 655 Broadway in downtown San Diego.

The American Red Cross

The organization is aiding wildfire victims with emergency shelters, meals, and medical care. The Red Cross is accepting donations online or by calling (800) RED-CROSS.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation

The LA-based organization — which supports 3,500 firefighters + paramedics — is seeking donations to support LAFD members battling wildfires with tools and supplies. Donate online.

SD Callie East Village

Leave your stuffed animal donations with a host at Callie — do not leave bags outside.

Callie’s Stuffies for Comfort Drive

East Village’s popular restaurant Callie is collecting new stuffed animals to distribute to children in LA. Stuffies can be dropped off at Callie Wednesday-Sunday, 12-10 p.m., through Friday, Jan. 17. You can also purchase stuffies for the drive through this link.

San Diego Humane Society

Amid the LA wildfires, the San Diego Humane Society has brought 43 adoptable pets to SD from the Pasadena Humane Society. You can foster or adopt a pet to help, or donate to the San Diego Humane Society or Pasadena Humane Society.

The Bissell Pet Foundation is sponsoring an Empty the Shelters promotion through Sunday, Jan. 26 reducing adoption fees for adult dogs + cats at the San Diego Humane Society to just $25 to help make more space to continue helping LA.

California Fire Foundation

This organization works with local fire agencies and community organizations to directly support victims of wildfires and disasters in California. Donate online.

The Salvation Army

The nonprofit is accepting donations to help provide shelter, food, and disaster relief directly to the victims of the wildfires.

United Way of Greater Los Angeles

Donations to this organization’s Wildfire Response Fund will support LA residents and long-term recovery efforts.

ICA San Diego/North

The museum’s Encinitas campus has been serving as a drop-off center for donations, collecting toiletries, water, non-perishable food, unopened first aid supplies, masks, batteries, and new socks + underwear. ICA said it will deliver items to organizations in Los Angeles.

World Central Kitchen

WCK has mobilized across Los Angeles County to provide comforting meals to first responders + families impacted by the wildfires. Donate online to support these ongoing efforts.

In San Diego, Herb & Wood and Chef Works are teaming up to host a pop-up for LA at Herb & Wood on Monday, Jan. 20, 1-5 p.m. Local beloved chefs will serve up their takes on smash burgers, oysters + fries, and all proceeds will go toward WCK. Tickets cost $50.

Dining for Disaster Relief

Eight San Diego restaurants + bars have united for this effort — Cloak & Petal, The Original 40 Brewing Company, Coco Maya, PRK 101, The Lobby Tiki Bar & Grill, Cococabana, Louisiana Purchase, and Miss B’s Coconut Club. The restaurants will donate proceeds from select menu items to support the LA Regional Food Bank through Friday, Jan. 31.

WE LOVE LA: Wildfire Relief Beer

LA’s Common Space Brewery has invited SoCal breweries to brew their own “We Love LA” beer with proceeds going to a selection of nonprofits supporting Angelenos impacted by the fires. The San Diego Brewers Guild shared the mission with SD’s craft breweries, so you might see some of these themed beers popping up in our city soon.

The San Diego Tourism Authority said dozens of local hotels are offering special accommodation rates for those impacted by the LA wildfires. This includes Town and Country Resort, Bahia Resort Hotel, Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa, and The Lakehouse Resort in San Marcos. Share this list with your LA friends. Several Gaslamp Quarter hotels are offering discounted rates for fire victims, too.
