Your first slice of holiday planning 🩃

12 places to preorder Thanksgiving pie in San Diego

We wish Thanksgiving planning was simple as pie. There are a lot of steps involved in preparing your feast, but you can take dessert off your plate. Bakeries throughout the county specialize in pies, and they’re getting ready to gobble up pre-orders. So, plan ahead by placing an order at one of these 10 local businesses preparing your Thanksgiving dessert.

đŸ„§ Mama’s Pies

San Diego’s annual bake sale is back, so you can have peace of mind + a piece of pie for the holidays. Mama’s Kitchen is committed to providing meals to chronically ill San Diegans, and each pie sold contributes 12 meals to locals — but you’ll need to order by Saturday, Nov. 19 (or until supplies run out) to get one for the holiday.

đŸ„§ Pop Pie Co.

This eatery makes a pie for every occasion, but Thursday, Nov. 17, is the deadline to get pies for Thanksgiving. You can select from five varieties to be picked up at any of its three locations.

đŸ„§ Gluten Free Baking Co.

This North Park + Clairemont business is making treats without the wheat, and pie is on the menu. Thanksgiving pre-orders need to be submitted by Tuesday, Nov. 15, and all orders will be available for pickup at the Clairemont location.

đŸ„§ Mom’s Pies

This Julian bakery has town + garden locations, both offering over a dozen varieties of whole pies for the holiday. If you’re not looking to make the trek to the East County mountains, there is a La Mesa pick-up day on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — so you’ll want to place your order with plenty of time to spare.

đŸ„§ Julian Pie Company

You can’t go wrong with this classic. The bakery offers nine varieties of pies, and they’re worth the drive to the mountain town — but you won’t need to make it. You can find the desserts in grocery stores across San Diego County, or you can select 2-day delivery when you order online.

Adira the red panda arrives at the San Diego Zoo

The newest resident at the San Diego Zoo will have you turning red. Adira — a 2-year-old red panda — has moved in and is acclimating to her new home + climate.

Adira SDtoday

Adira says hello.

She joins Lucas, Kola + Clark, making her the fourth firefox to reside at the zoo. While the species is native to areas in the Eastern Himalayas like China, Nepal, and Bhutan, Adira has a cooler story. She was born in Canada, where she lived at the Toronto Zoo before coming to San Diego.

Adira’s relocation comes at the recommendation of the Red Panda Species Survival Plan. The species is currently endangered, so the zoo is hoping she really gets along with her mates, especially Lucas.

Pro tip: The red panda exhibit has gotten super popular recently (if you know, you know), so give yourself time + get ready for a line.
THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Michael.

Editor’s pick: Good morning, San Diego. We got plenty of rain yesterday, which I believe is the universe telling me to watch movies + TV. If you’re willing to drive to a luxury theater, that’s a great way to treat yourself. However, I stay in and watch Netflix. I’m fascinated by true crime, and was captivated by the Oceanside-based case depicted in “Killer Sally” that shook the bodybuilding world.
