Looking for a place to trick-or-treat? These free celebrations around San Diego County offer a scary-good time for the whole family.

You’ve got your costume, now it’s time to get candy. If you’re not able to go door-to-door this year, San Diego still has ways to collect treats.

No tricks here, we’ve got a bag full of 17 free community events where kids can trick-or-treat — and parents will have fun, too.

All month

  • Fall Fest, Belmont Park, 5 p.m. | Head to this oceanfront destination for its annual fall celebration and you’ll find trick-or-treating starting at 5 p.m. each Sunday — double the sweetness at the Trunk Or Treat Car Show on Sunday, Oct. 29, 3-6 p.m. Also enjoy seasonal food items, festive decor, and fall-themed entertainment.

Saturday, Oct. 21

Wednesday, Oct. 25

  • Trunk or Treat, El Cajon, 5-7:30 p.m. | It’s the final Cajon Classic Cruise car show of the year, and this time, kids can score candy from the trunks while parents check out the cool rides.

Friday, Oct. 27

Saturday, Oct. 28

  • Halloween Spooktacular, The Forum Carlsbad, 2-6 p.m. | Participating retailers will be giving kids Halloween candy and kids can get a free bucket the Garden Area while supplies last.
  • Halloween in the Village, Carlsbad, 2-6 p.m. | Come dressed to impress and go business-to-business to collect treats at the Village Faire Shopping Center. There will be costume contests and a comedy magic show to end the night.

Sunday, Oct. 29

  • Trick-or-Treat on India Street, Little Italy, 5:30-7:30 p.m. | The Piazza della Famiglia gets a scary “Nightmare Before Christmas” makeover with decorations and photo ops, plus businesses on India Street will give out treats.
  • Halloween at the Station, Liberty Station, 12-4 p.m. | Enjoy trick-or-treating throughout Ingram Plaza and partake in the costume contest, games, and inflatables. Plus, the whole family will be treated to local history at Liberty Station’s Centennial Community Celebration.
  • Halloween Spooktacular, Mission Marketplace in Oceanside, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. | Decorate a bucket and use it to trick-or-treat at the shops in this plaza.
  • Halloween Town Costume Party, Seaport Village | It’s your chance to grab Halloween-themed treats from local stores, plus enjoy games, prizes, and a costume parade.

Tuesday, Oct. 31

  • Trick-or-Treat at Grossmont Center, La Mesa, 3-5 p.m | Register in advance to collect treats at this mall and enjoy activities like face painting, games, and character appearances.
  • Trick-or-Treating in La Mesa Village, 4-6 p.m. | Score free candy at participating locations on La Mesa Boulevard and find entertainment like stilt walkers and a Halloween-themed organ concert. Plus, dress up the pups and participate in the “Howl-o-Ween” costume contest.
  • Safe Trick-or-Treat, Encinitas, 5-8 p.m. | Kids can go business-to-business along South Coast Highway 101 and collect candy at this 22nd annual event. Plus, be on the look out for live entertainment, games, and a jack-o-lantern galley.
  • Halloween Treat Trail, Poway, 2-6 p.m. | Follow this community trail and score treats along the way — no tricks.
  • MainStreet Goes Ghostly, Coronado, 3:30-5:30 p.m. | Look for the cauldron on MainStreet — it’s the day when local businesses welcome ghosts, witches, and trick-or-treaters.

Try this: Many local theme parks offer complementary trick-or-treating as part of their seasonal events. You will need to pay for entry, but you might score a sweet deal during “Kids Free San Diego.”
