Cinco de Mayo is this Friday, May 5 — the holiday that commemorates Mexico’s victory in the Battle of Puebla in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III. Though not a major holiday in Mexico, San Diego loves to celebrate it with a fiesta or two.

2023 Old Town Cinco de Mayo, Old Town

The historic landmark will host its fiesta Friday, May 5-Sunday, May 7, with entertainment and drink deals at participating restaurants. Don’t miss the mariachis and ballet folklórico at Casa de Guadalajara.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Seaport Village

Head to the waterfront landmark on Saturday, May 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., for live music, dancing, and the centuries-old equestrian sport of charrería.

Cinco Fiesta, Novo Brazil Brewing Co.

The Chula Vista taproom will feature a rock reggae fusion band, mariachis, beer specials, and food vendors on Friday, May 5, 5-9 p.m.
