San Diego International Airport’s elaborate New T1 project continues to take shape. Let’s see where SAN’s $3.4 billion Terminal 1 overhaul stands as of October 2023.

Three things you should know:

  • A new entrance road to Terminal 1 opens on westbound North Harbor Drive beginning at Liberator Way on Oct. 27, 2023, plus a new pedestrian path near North Harbor Drive at Harbor Island Drive. Construction is impacting airport traffic, so give yourself extra time to arrive before your flight.
  • The timeline is on track: The 5,200-space New T1 Parking Plaza is set to open in late 2024. Phase 1A, which includes 19 new gates, is slated to debut in late summer 2025. Phase 1B, with 11 more new gates, is expected in 2028.
  • Phase 1A will also bring a batch of locally-inspired concessions including Herb & Air — a mini food hall from local celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey — and Novecientos Grados, a concept from celebrity Chef Claudette Zepeda and skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
